Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway Makes the Case for Belted Jackets

Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway made a fashionable appearance during a royal engagement at the National Association for Public Health Research Awards on Monday. The royal was on hand to present at the event, which was held in Norway’s capital, Oslo.

For the daytime event, Princess Mette-Marit opted for her own interpretation on an old fashion trend. The royal wore a Max Mara Pepli wool-blend jacket in black, which featured padded shoulders and a slight flare at the waist. She paired the look with the Vernice black patent bow belt, courtesy of Prada.

Beneath the jacket, Princess Mette-Marit wore a cobalt blue dress with a pleated skirt. She opted to wear black textured pumps courtesy of Yvonne Koné to complete the look. The royal’s ensemble hardly needed any accessories, thanks to the belted element of her look and the varied shapes and textures of her dress and jacket.

Belted jackets, especially those with skinny belts that are separate from the jacket itself, haven’t been among the trends fashioned by European royal women as of late. More recently, several royal women have opted for the power suit trend. Princess Charlene of Monaco was the latest royal to offer her own take on the power suit, fashioning a double-breasted jacket by Ralph Lauren with gold button detailing.

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden also approached the trend, making the case for spring wool in a bouclé blazer with gold buttons by Andiata. Then, of course, there’s Kate Middleton, who’s made the power suit a new staple of her collection of looks.

When it comes to daytime engagements, royal women have taken business attire to a whole new level. Whether they opt for the power suit trend, or put their own unique spin on a combination of pieces, business attire is a staple for several royal wardrobes across Europe.
