Janelle Monáe made a dazzling entrance on the red carpet at the NFL Honors on Thursday in Las Vegas. She sported a mirrored minidress by Tony Ward Couture, which came from the designer’s spring 2024 collection.
Monáe accessorized with gold and diamond earrings by Reza, as well as a pair of black peep-toe pumps featuring a jeweled ankle strap. The singer was styled by Alexandra Mandelkorn, whose other clients include Rachel Brosnahan, Stephanie Hsu and Alexandra Shipp.
Hairdresser Nikki Nelms styled Monáe’s dark tresses in a chic crop, while makeup artist Keita Moore gave her winged eyeliner and a bold red lip.
Monáe frequently favors black and white color palettes. At the Grammys on Sunday, she donned a black Armani Privé gown lined with silver rhinestones. Monáe’s affinity for monochrome dressing is a tribute to her lineage.
“It’s a dedication to uniformity and I’m a minimalist by heart, but a lot of it had to do with me wanting to have a uniform like the working class, like my mom and my grandmother,” Monáe told the Huffington Post in 2013. “My grandmother had 16 sisters and brothers and they all had to share one pair of shoes. That’s the family that I come from — I don’t ever want to be detached from that. I use it as motivation for my music and to just keep me centered, grounded and to stay on message.”
Monáe’s preferred hues are on-trend this season. Labels including Gucci and Jil Sander sent snowy shades down the runway in their spring 2024 collections.
The NFL Honors celebrate the best football players and performances of the year. The ceremony is held ahead of the Super Bowl, and takes place in the game’s host city.
The Kansas City Chiefs will face off against the San Francisco 49ers at the 57th annual Super Bowl on Sunday. Usher will headline this year’s halftime show. Country star Reba McIntyre has been tapped to sing the national anthem, while Post Malone will perform “America the Beautiful.”
