John Isner was joined on the court by his family after he won his first match over Facundo Díaz Acosta on Tuesday during the second day of the 2023 U.S. Open. Isner, who is currently ranked No. 8 in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals and reached the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open in 2011 and 2018, won his first match at this year’s tournament by 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (1).
During the game, Isner wore a white baseball cap, a cream polo shirt with a vertical and diagonal blue stripe intersecting to make a cross on it, blue tennis shorts, cream sneakers and white socks — all from Fila. The brand is among Isner’s many sponsors, which also include Prince, Tamko, Defy, Bass Pro, Ebix, Nulo and Runa. Fila signed a multiyear partnership with Isner in 2016.

On Aug. 23, Isner revealed he plans to retire after this year’s U.S. Open. His current appearance at the U.S. Open marks the 17th time the 38-year-old tennis player has competed in the tournament.
“After 17+ years on the ATP Tour, it’s time to say goodbye to professional tennis,” Isner wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “This transition won’t be easy but I’m looking forward to every second of it with my amazing family. The @usopen will be my final event. Time to lace ‘em up one last time.”
Luckily for Isner, his farewell tournament is off to a winning start. Isner will play his second match at the U.S. Open on Thursday against Michael Mmoh. Both players represent the United States.
