PARIS – As Los Angeles continues to battle multiple wildfires, the sixth edition of the LVMH Watch Week is changing locations, WWD has learned.
The event was originally slated to take place from Jan. 21 to 24 in the ritzy Bel Air neighborhood, which was affected by forced evacuations orders on Sunday due to the advances of the Palisades fire. Authorities fear that dangerously high winds forecast for this week could fuel flames further.
Instead, nine houses owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton will be showcasing their latest timekeeping designs in New York City for U.S.-based press and retailers on the fair’s initially planned dates, with details still currently under wraps.
Further presentations for press, retailers and clients will also be held in Paris at the end of January.
The event will mark the participation of Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton and L’Épée 1839 for the first time, who join the roster alongside Bulgari, Daniel Roth, Gerald Genta, Hublot, Tag Heuer and Zenith.
First launched in Dubai in 2020, the traveling watchmaking showcase has previously traveled to Singapore and was held in Miami last year.
In reporting third-quarter results, LVMH said organic sales of watches and jewelry were down 4 percent, but did not worsen. The French luxury group’s full-year results will be published on Jan. 28.
In November, the U.S. emerged as a rare bright spot according to figures published by the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry.
Exports to the country grew 4.7 percent in November while all other major markets shrunk, continuing a downturn that is beginning to erode the industry’s gains of the past two years.
