Melissa McCarthy Goes Sheer in Bralette and Oversize Suit, Hillary Clinton in Symbolic White Coat and More Stars at ‘Suffs’ Broadway Premiere


“Suffs,” the new Broadway musical about the 1913 Women’s Movement written by Shaina Taub and directed by Leigh Silverman, premiered at the Music Box Theatre on Thursday in New York City. Because of the show’s content, Melissa McCarthy, among several other stars, activists and influential figures, attended opening night in empowering, eye-catching looks styled with thematic accessories.

For the occasion, the “Spy” actress donned a matching black blazer and pants set, styled with a sheer mock-neck long-sleeve top in the same hue. Additionally, McCarthy’s ensemble featured a pair of Tender and Dangerous nude embroidered gloves adorned with the phrases “Can ladies kill?” along the front and “Kiss here” up the middle finger, as well as images of knives, cigarettes and diamonds. To finish off her look, the “Mike and Molly” star wore a number of gold-colored pin-back buttons customized with the phrase “Votes for Women” along her left lapel.

Other celebrities who graced the musical’s red carpet entrance included Malala Yousafzai, Hillary Clinton, Rachel Brosnahan, Sara Bareilles and Anna Wintour, among others.

Yousafzai arrived to the show in a plum-colored dress, patterned in a large floral motif, and a matching headscarf. Her look was adorned with a small red pin from Artists4Ceasefire, an activist organization that uses celebrity voices to call for peace in regard to the war in Gaza.

Other attendees opted for modern suiting looks, a traditional symbol of women’s liberation, including Clinton, who arrived in a midlength white coat jacket, adorned with pearl buttons and styled with a pair of black straight-leg trousers, and Brosnahan, who walked the red carpet in an oversize beige-colored two-piece suit set.
