Prabal Gurung’s Spring 2025 Collection Centered on Celebration

Prabal Gurung looked to optimism and hope for his spring 2025 collection that celebrated Holi and feminine leadership with ethereal silhouettes, vibrant colors and subtle cheeky elements.

The Nepalese designer continued his design codes of fusing East and West by centering on the theme of Holi Hope. As he was ideating the collection in Nepal, the news of Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign was announced, which fueled his vision of a hopeful and celebratory spring lineup.

“It just took off for me because I love her and I’ve dressed her so many times,” the designer said. “There was this renewed sense of excitement and purpose and that really tapped into what I was doing initially with the Holi theme and I just leaned into it.”

Gurung stayed true to his whimsical and ethereal aesthetic through airy slipdresses, sheer blouses and effortless draping. The celebratory vibe was felt through party-like styles, such as a multicolored fringe minidress and a metallic floral-print dress with a bubble skirt.

The designer gave a few cheeky nods to Harris’ campaign — specifically the vice president’s viral coconut meme — from subtle details like brown paillettes shaped like coconuts to more noticeable references, such as a white brocade minidress embellished with a crystal palm tree.

“I’ve had the most fun doing this collection because it just felt there was an ease to it,” he said. “All of these prints are splattered Holi prints. Kamala means lotus flower, so all of these flowers are like exploded lotuses.”

A sense of refinement came through pieces that focused on construction rather than detail, such as silk chiffon blouses paired with structured trousers or skirts and an array of slipdresses.

Gurung’s spring lineup showed his knack for having fun with his designs and also how he’s able to inject newness into his established codes.
