Tatiana Bilbao ESTUDIO, SO – IL, Johnston Marklee, Sasaki, and Fernanda Canales shortlisted for North Boulder Creative Campus

In Colorado, a shortlist of architecture firms has been announced for the North Boulder Creative Campus. The winning design team will work on an “iconic facility” for Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) and a master plan for a new 100,000-square-foot campus with live-work, commercial, and retail spaces.

The shortlisted firms were Tatiana Bilbao ESTUDIO, SO – IL, Johnston Marklee, Sasaki, and Fernanda Canales Arquitectura. Each of these offices went into the competition, announced in March via an RFQ, with local design partners.

SO – IL partnered with Coburn and Dig Studio; Tatiana Bilbao ESTUDIO with High, Low, Buffalo; Sasaki with Patkau Architects; Johnston Marklee with Independent Architecture and BVH Architecture; and Fernanda Canales’s design partner is Tres Birds.

Trestle Strategy Group, a local real estate office, is shepherding the competition. “Each of these design teams demonstrate a commitment to creating exceptional civic spaces and an established involvement within our local community,” Trestle shared in a statement.

Now that the shortlist has been made public, an RFP will be sent to design firms later this August. Shortlisted teams will submit their RFPs in September, and then present their concepts to the community in North Boulder this fall.

The winning firm will be announced in winter 2024–25.

Construction is slated for completion in 2029.

AN will circle back when more details about the project emerge.
